Q: What classes or programs do you offer?
A: We offer classes and programs in Makeup Artistry and Print Hair Styling. Please view our school catalog for specific descriptions of what we offer.
Q: What is the difference between the Professional Program and the Masters Program?
A: The Professional Program is a 4-week program, which also is equivalent to the first 4 weeks of the Masters Program. This program will put you at the level to do Bridal, Special Event, Makeover and Retail level makeup. If you complete the Professional Program, you can always continue and interview for the Masters Program. Please review our school catalog for more information
The Masters Program is our most popular program. It is a full 10-week program that will put you at the level to do makeup for Fashion, Editorial, HD TV, Film, Runway and Avant-Garde. It is the most popular because we offer Business, Media Marketing, Hair Styling Workshop, Beauty Lighting, 4 days of photos shoots, 8 page portfolio and your own website. This is a selective program, therefore, you will need to submit an Essay to the Board of Directors and interview with the owner, Margaret Kimura.
Q: Do I have to have previous experience in this industry?
A: You do not need to have any previous experience to attend MKC. Our classes are designed to teach you from the very beginning of makeup and hairstyling to the most advance techniques.
Q: When should I apply? Submit my essay for the Masters Program? Set up my phone Interview?
A: MKC classes are booked up to about 3 months in advance. The recommended application submission is 3-6 months prior to your start date. Applications are always being accepted. If you are applying for the Masters Program or the Works Package, you should submit your essay 3-6 months prior to your start date. The Board of Directors meet on Tuesdays or Thursdays every week. Result will be given the next day. Phone or in person interviews with Margaret Kimura are scheduled within the week you finalize your financial plan with an MKC Counselor.
Q: How much are the programs and courses? How much are the kits and equipment for MKC?
A: MKC is up front with all tuition costs and equipment costs. Please view Tuition Breakdown Document in the school catalog. Equipment ranges from $50 - $2500. Q: Do you offer financial aid? Do I need a co-signer?
A: MKC offers a Smart Option Loan through Sallie Mae. the MKC Easy Enrollment Loan and the FED-M Loan. With these loans available all students will have an opportunity to attend MKC without exception. These loans vary from no credit to excellent credit and all levels in between. Interest only payments or no payments while in class, and in some cases deferred payments after graduation..
If you are under the age of 26, we highly recommend you apply with a co-signer. A Co-signer’s good credit may help you qualify and/or lower your interest rate, saving you even more money. Don’t have a co-signer? Call MKC today and we will help you come up with a financial plan.
Q: Where am I going to live?
A: MKC does not have on campus living, but we do have many highly recommended places to stay near the campus. Please call a MKC Counselor at 1-877-798-1785 x81 to get the list.
Q: Do I have to pay my tuition up front?
A: MKC does require tuition to be paid up front. However if you are participating in one of our financial aid options, you many not be required to pay everything at once. A deposit is required to hold your seat in any course. A 10% deposit is due to hold your spot in any program. If paying cash, we require another payment a month prior to your start date, and the balance must be paid 1 week prior to your start date. If you need to work out other payment plans, please speak with your MKC Counselor.
Q: What happens after I graduate? Do you offer job placement? If I need advice on my career, can I meet with a counselor or director?
A: MKC provides you with many career-training tools while you are in session. In your business and marketing classes you will learn how to start your business and how to grow your business upon graduation. MKC provides the Masters and the Works students access to an Alumni Job Board. We post jobs and networking events weekly on our alumni page and also send out email notifications when a referral comes in. This is a freelancing industry and all of our teachers are working and are known for taking qualified students as an assistant on jobs. MKC does not place alumni directly into jobs.. Once you are accepted to MKC, you are now a part of the MKC Family. We are always available for meetings and career meetings. Call a MKC Counselor any time to schedule an appointment.
Q: How old do I have to be to attend MKC? What other requirements should I have?
A: MKC requires you to be at least 18 years of age. If you are under the age of 18, you must submit a waiver release form signed by a parent or guardian. You must also obtain a high school diploma or equivalent.
Q: Am I only going to have one teacher? Does Margaret Kimura teach any classes?
A: MKC is *Ranked #1 in Instructor Experience. All of MKC’s teachers have between 5 and 30 years of experience in the industry. Our students deserve the most recent techniques and information available with that in mind all teachers must be currently working in the industry, iIn order to teach any of our courses. The owner, Margaret Kimura, is very involved in her school and does teach during every Masters Program. When attending MKC, you will learn from the best and be the best!
Q: Do you offer online classes?
A: At the time, MKC does not offer online courses. We are focused on hands on training to guarantee to most out of your education at MKC.
